Portraits of Women and Ghosts

This work was scanned from a unique collection owned by José Luis Rodríguez Guerra. There has been considerable water damage, due to Mark's having lived on the water, and of inadequate storage.

The damaged prints present a curious explication of the original work, revealing the artists' intent on the front of each piece, with the vagaries of chance and water on the verso. In some cases there is no relationship between the two sides, front and back. But in other instances the artist's intention presents an ethereal echo in the ghosted images created by the subtle bleeding of color.

Although Mark James Perry was a fierce proponent of intention in artistic work, I have been told that he also saw the value and beauty in the modifications of chance and happenstance in the compromised works from this collection.
